After a buyer has contacted you with a purchase request, it is time for you to agree on how the purchase will be completed. The safest approach is for you to meet in person and for the buyer to pay by online. Then you as the seller can immediately see that the money has been transferred to your account and the buyer gets a chance to see the work before the payment is made. Even if you do not have a company, you can write a receipt for the buyer. There are various templates online that can be used for purchases between private individuals.
If the buyer lives elsewhere, the purchase can be made remotely and the work shipped, but then it is important for both parties to consider certain security measures. It is a good idea to agree in advance which of you will pay for the shipping costs, as well as whether the buyer has any right of withdrawal on the purchase. If you have a business, the customer always has a 14-day right of withdrawal when purchasing online, but in trade between private individuals, the right of withdrawal only exists if you agree in advance.
It is better to use onlinebank or bank transfer as a payment method. We recommend that you as a seller check that the payment has been received before sending your artwork, or ask the buyer to pay a deposit and that the remaining amount is paid when the artwork has been delivered. If it is a larger sum of money, it may be worth drawing up a purchase contract that is legally binding on both sides.
With a Advanced account, thearte provides a digital payment service and handles sales for you directly on the platform. The customer can pay with Mastercard, Visa and American Express as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. When you have sold a work, you will receive an order confirmation by email, where you can find all the sales information and contact details for the customer.
It is important that the prices and availability of your works are always up to date. For example, if a work is reserved, or if you have sold it through another channel, you need to mark the work as sold in your gallery as soon as possible.
The customer has the right to cancel their purchase within 14 days of payment. To cancel the purchase, the customer must contact the artist directly. If the work has already been delivered to the customer, you will agree together on how the work will be returned. The artist will then inform The Arte via email to [email protected] of the customer's decision to cancel the purchase and when the work has been returned. Once we have received this information, the refund process will begin, and the customer can expect the money to be refunded within 14 days. If you have already received a payment from thearte, you will be liable to us for compensation.
The next step is to deliver your work to the buyer, follow our guide Shipping and delivering your art .
